2014 marks the 170th anniversary of the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers Society. To celebrate this special anniversary the Pioneers 170 blog will guide you through the Pioneers’ first year.

It is decided at this meeting that Charles Howarth is to be responsible for the society’s rules; possibly this refers to the distribution of the rule pamphlets that have been printed.

It seems that the Cloth Hall has been found unsuitable; at the last meeting they intended to make an offer on the premises. Perhaps Mr. Butterworth refused to make the necessary repairs, of the price offered was not accepted. Nonetheless, new premises must be found, and Miles Ashworth, Charles Howarth and James Daly must find them. The annual rent must not exceed £10.

James Smithies and William Mallalieu are recorded absent, and John Dawson is admitted as a member.
