2014 marks the 170th anniversary of the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers Society. To celebrate this special anniversary the Pioneers 170 blog will guide you through the Pioneers’ first year.
The Pioneers resolve this week that the expense incurred in fitting the shop out for business shall be distributed over the whole rental period of three years.
They are also branching out in their stock choices: Charles Howarth is charged with procuring a licence for the next quarter so that the Pioneers can sell tea and tobacco at their store.
