The society’s President, Charles Howarth, is absent at this meeting, yet he seems to have retrospectively signed the minutes; his signature appears where it usually does to indicate – you can see it at the bottom of the entry. On the other hand, perhaps this is an aberration, and he has signed the next week’s minutes at the start rather than at the end, for his signature does not appear at the conclusion of the next meeting, which is unusual.
It is decided at this meeting that Jacob Rogers and George Dickenson are to become members, and Thomas Nuttal (labourer, Butterworth) is proposed as a candidate.
