As the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers Society developed, they opened new departments. Anything that people needed, they sought to provide, with the aim of being all-encompassing. In 1867, having already bought and developed many buildings on Toad Lane, the society set about building a new central store to house all departments. Amongst other things, they sold good quality furniture at reasonable prices. This mirror stands as a symbol of the societies expansion.
