13b2014 marks the 170th anniversary of the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers Society.  To celebrate this special anniversary the Pioneers 170 blog will guide you through the Pioneers’ first year.

This week, it’s a General Quarterly Meeting, and the Pioneers appoint new directors for the coming year: John Grimshaw, Thomas Greenwood, William Taylor, James Meanock and Robert Buckley. John Dearden (waste dealer, North Lane) becomes a member, and John Jones (woollen mill spinner, Paddock), a candidate.

The shares from last week are sold: James Dearden buys James Knowles’s, and Charles Howarth buys Samuel Ashworth’s. It is agreed that the accounts from December will be handed to the society’s auditors for examination, and that James Smithies takes over as an auditor from the retiring Joseph Smith.
