2014 marks the 170th anniversary of the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers Society.  To celebrate this special anniversary the Pioneers 170 blog will guide you through the Pioneers’ first year.

06bAt the Pioneers’ last recorded meeting before the opening of their store on December 21, the joiners and bricklayers bills are paid, and George Ashworth is given responsibility for the keys.

William Taylor loans the society’s law book for a week, and there is note to confirm that it is returned on December 26. Finally, three new candidates are admitted: Robert Lupton, George Morton and James Whatmough.
