12 December 1844

2014 marks the 170th anniversary of the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers Society.  To celebrate this special anniversary the Pioneers 170 blog will guide you through the Pioneers’ first year.

06a (1)At this Board Meeting, the Pioneers decide on stock for their shop. David Brooks and John Holt are placed in charge of purchasing flour, butter, sugar and oatmeal. Each member must give the secretary his address on or before December 18, but this instruction is unexplained in the minutes. Presumably it is so all members are contactable.
The proposed candidates from the last meeting, James Carson and James Wilson, are admitted as members, and the meeting is adjourned until 8 o’clock the next evening.
