Come on, Co-op!
Co-operation has always been essential in team sports. Working together for a common goal on the field, pitch or race track.
The membership of UK co-operative societies rose from 4.1 million in 1919 to 8.5 million in 1939 creating communities that work together and provide education that expands to include sport and culture.
Come on, Co-op! is an exhibition about the co-operative movement and its impact within sport – from the history of co-operative sport sponsorship to fan-owned sports teams.
The exhibition will aim to assess the impact that fan-ownership is having on the world of sport and in particular will look at two local co-operative sport teams – the Rochdale Hornets and FC United.
The exhibition will open on the 2nd of July and will run for one year – until July 2017.
