This plaque was donated to the museum in 2000 and was originally made to commemorate the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers Society centenary in 1944. The famous wheat sheaf symbol is once again present in the centre. The wheat sheafsymbol was used by the CWS from its early formation. Labor and Wait means that nothing can be achieved without hard work and patience and the wheat sheaf logo symbolises the strength of a team – one ear of wheat cannot stand alone but with others, in a wheat sheaf, it stands strong. The American spelling of Labour (Labor) was adopted early on to show support for the anti-slavery movement in America.
